The last time TIAC was in St. John’s was 2009.

In global news, this was the year Barak Obama was sworn in as US President. When Steven Page officially left the Barenaked Ladies to pursue a solo career. When Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation after singing on Britain’s Got Talent. When Michael Jackson died.

In TIAC news, this was the final year of Chris Ishkanian’s term as TIAC President. It was the start of a contract extension with Point One Media. And was the year Steve Clayman was hired by TIAC to get the Best Practices Guide recognized in the National Building Code.

At the Conference, the presentations included family business succession planning, improving your team’s productivity and Ron King speaking about NIA’s mechanical insulation marketing initiative.

FAST FORWARD 15 YEARS…

We have an Olympian speaking about balancing a demanding athletic career, family life and several businesses.

We have one of North America’s largest venture studios discussing machine learning and the implementation of AI into your business.

We have a digital asset consultant sharing how Bitcoin has disrupted the current financial system and how this can impact you and your business.

We have a panel discussion with tech experts and contractor members focused on how early technology adoption has helped them pursue excellence in their field.

We have NIA’s President diving into their study on Insulation’s Positive Impact on Energy Efficiency and Emission Reductions.

We are using an app in place of the printed materials that used to be handed out.

All that to say, a few things have changed since 2009. But not all…

LOBSTERS AND PUFFINS AND COD TONGUES,
OH MY!

Legacy members and first timers will mingle with those in between as we scoff and scuff our way through the program. Yes b’y! You’ll all be honorary Newfoundlanders by the time The Rock’s done witcha!

You also won’t be able to contain your “Newfound-smile” as you take in the views, tour local landmarks, or sit down with a pint at the end of the North Head Trail hike.

We bet you’ll even be caught “Screeching” as you ride the waves to Bird Island and spy your first puffin or if something takes a nibble out of you in the Ocean Sciences Centre touch tank.

THANK YOU FOR COMING FROM AWAY WITH TIAC!

Long may your big Jib draw! ▪
