As we move through spring and closer to summer, we get a breath of fresh air, the trees are growing lush, and the smell of BBQ fill our neighbourhoods. We shake off the cold and throw open our doors and windows to invite in the warm weather.
Here at TIAC, we have been very busy! We have Tristan calling all members new and old. In addition to introducing himself, he is looking to learn what our membership is looking for from TIAC and where TIAC may be able to provide more support. If you get a call from Tristan, please take the time to speak with him—he is there to help TIAC help you, our members.
Tristan is also starting to transition into the North American Commercial and Industrial Insulation Standards Manual Committee position that has been held by James Low on behalf of TIAC for the past year. The TIAC team would like to thank James for his support, dedication, and willingness to take on the work that was thrown at him. We received high praise on James from the Manual Committee members and members of the Midwest Insulation Contractors Association (MICA) who own the Manual. James agreed to stay on for the next meeting to support Tristan as he learns the role. Again, thank you very much, James. We really appreciate your hard work and look forward to working with you in the future.
Tristan has been a great addition to the team, and I am very excited to see where he is going to take his position.
In March, Robin and I had the opportunity to travel to the NIA convention in Hawaii. What an experience! We had the best CAN-AM meeting ever held at their convention. There had to be at least 20-30 people involved in the meeting. We had the Canadian delegates that were at the convention, each of whom I would like to personally thank for demonstrating your support of TIAC to the executive board of NIA. We had the NIA President, Joe Leo, and the President Elect, Laura Dover, their Past President, David Cox, and Treasurer, Rick Sutphin, and, of course, Michelle Jones. They gave us an hour and half for the meeting, and we used every single minute. The conversations could have continued, but unfortunately both sides had to adjourn due to other commitments. It was a very positive meeting, and I know that there are items that were discussed that will be of benefit our TIAC members.
We met many people, manufacturers, distributers, and contractors throughout the convention. I am hoping that our conversations with these people will lead to more attendance at our conference in Whistler this August. I was given the opportunity to address the entire convention to talk about Tristan and our upcoming conference. Thank you to NIA for that opportunity as it is hard to get time within their jam-packed itinerary. We closed out the convention with a traditional luau. It was a great experience for both of us.
Chris Ishkanian has been working very hard on the upcoming conference. Registration opened in March, and we started seeing members sign up right away. It is exciting to see such quick response! I believe that we are going to have a very educational and fun experience. I am personally looking for to it. The hotel will book up quickly, so start making your travel plans soon.
The team went to Whistler in May for our spring board meeting. At this meeting, we got to see all of the great things that Chris has lined up for us, from the hotel to restaurants to the golf course. Unfortunately, with our very full meeting agenda, we were not able to enjoy the golf course on this trip.
The Innovators are continuing work on their initiative to reach out to different avenues of the industry to get more people involved with TIAC. This dedicated group meets at least twice a month. If you are interested in joining the Innovators, please contact your provincial rep and let them know.
AIQ is continuing to work on their Quality Assurance Program. They have been working very diligently on this program, and we are looking forward to hearing their updates at the conference.
Once again, I am looking forward to seeing everyone in August in Whistler. You won’t want to miss this Conference! Trust me, it will be worth every penny that you invest in it. ▪
