The next issue of TIAC Times is our annual TIAC convention issue so I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone about the importance of attending industry conferences and events. Trade conferences and association meetings offer people working in the industry a chance to exchange ideas, network with others, and learn about important changes within the industry.
In challenging economic times, businesses often tend to hunker-down and focus inwardly to survive the storm, sometimes neglecting important relationships and networking opportunities. In tough times, many business owners and managers will focus on competing on price alone to increase the chances of winning contracts. While price is always an important consideration for any buyer, it is still only part of the criteria they use for making their final buying decision. Many times the quality of the relationship a buyer has with their supplier and the supplier’s in-depth knowledge can be deciding factors in purchasing.
Keeping up with important industry relationships and knowledge often keeps businesses working while their competitors sit idle. Valuable information gathered at industry conferences and events can be passed along to clients through new products and services that directly or indirectly benefit their projects and closing the deal.
Conventions and other industry events are key venues for re-kindling existing relationships, building new ones, and gathering information, all of which can translate into new business opportunities and cost-savings for the company. It is critical for companies to get a feel for which way the winds are blowing regarding regulations, new products and services, as well as market conditions, so managers can make better decisions. Meeting with similar businesses and exchanging ideas and experiences can only help to make things better for everyone in the industry.
With the recession looking like it's moving into the history books, it's time for business to start looking forward. Business planning can be tough enough at the best of times, but without reliable up-to-date industry information, it can be more difficult to position your company for success. Attending the annual TIAC convention can be critical for plotting a successful course in the thermal insulation industry.
Rather than taking a passive stance in the industry you work in, why not get involved by sharing your knowledge and experience with others around the industry and benefit from those already doing so?
This year's TIAC convention is from September 18 to 21 in Kelowna, BC and I encourage everyone to attend. For a preview of the conference and to find a registration form, turn to page 14 of this issue.
