Your TIAC Board and 2022 Conference Chairs are excited to welcome you to Ottawa to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of TIAC’s conferences. Can you believe that it’s already been ten years since we celebrated the 50th in Quebec City?
The timing couldn’t be better—after all we’ve been through over the last two years, it is time for some good. Good friends. Good food. Good times! And, boy, are the Conference Chairs, Steve Huculiak and Tim Pullyblank, working hard to make sure that you get all of the good that you need, want, and deserve!
Here’s a Snapshot of What We’ve Got in Store For You…
The Conference is being hosted at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel, located in the heart of Ottawa’s downtown. The hotel backs on Sparks Street, a bustling pedestrian walkway full of patios and shops that runs from the hotel to the War Memorial. Head a block north and you are at Parliament Hill. A short walk to the east and you’ll find yourself in the Byward Market, which is a hotbed of activity all summer long. Bring your walking shoes and sunscreen so that you can walk the length of the Rideau Canal and maybe check out an Athlético (soccer) game or watch the Redblacks take on the Edmonton Elks at TD Place.
The Conference will kick-off on Wednesday, August 17 with the Manufacturer and Distributor Reception. Reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and be sure to welcome any first-time attendees to the TIAC family.
Thursday’s program will feature an invited speaker who will be sharing a wealth of experience on the management of multi-generation workforces. We will also have an update from the TIAC Innovators, a follow-up presentation by Peter Gauchel to his May 11 webinar on the new edition of the North American Commercial and Industrial Insulation Standards manual, and an update from the TIAA team on their Denis Formula updates.
The spousal/family program will also be kicking off this day. Join Escape Bicycle Tours for a leisurely 2-hour, 12-kilometre, bike tour that will take you past many of Ottawa’s major attractions. The scenic and safe bicycle paths will showcase some great views of the city, while the guides talk about Ottawa’s unique history.
Thursday evening we will be cruising the Ottawa River. The River Queen was refurbished in the style of an early 19th century paddle steamer. Two levels, two patios, and a dance floor. Let the good times flow!
Back on dry land, Friday brings presentations from our friends at NIA and the golf tournament. Not a golfer? Not a problem! Join our Brew Donkey walking tour for an afternoon of entertainment, education and, of course, beer. This 3.5-hour tour will feature tours of two local craft breweries and give you the opportunity to learn about Ottawa’s History Through Beer, all the while taking in some spectacular views of Ottawa and Gatineau.
As we reach Saturday, the last day of the Conference, join us for the final morning of presentations. We have the pleasure of having a two-time Olympic hockey gold medalist speak about high performance and mental wellness. We will also get a sneak-peak at the 2023 Conference program scheduled for August 23-26 in Whistler, BC!

In Case That Wasn’t Enough…
TIAC is pleased to host NIA’s Thermal Insulation Inspector Certification course August 14-17.
National Insulation Association’s (NIA) Thermal Insulation Inspector Certification Program, a two-part, four-day course to educate insulation inspectors on how to evaluate installation work and determine whether it is compliant with mechanical insulation specifications.
This certification program will educate you on mechanical insulation, how to verify that the insulation is being installed to the specification, and how to identify potential areas of concern during initial installation or ongoing operations.
The fees include the following three courses:
- Mechanical Insulation Basics (on-line)
- Understanding Mechanical Insulation course (in-person)
- Thermal Insulation Inspector Certification (in-person)
A few of the benefits for mechanical insulation contractors:
- Provides a mechanism to request specification clarity and identify potential conflicting information
- Provides a mechanism to ensure material compliance with the contract and/or specification documents
- Complements QA/QC programs or provides a good start for implementing a program
- Can increase profitability by minimizing mistakes and/or rework, and supporting potential contract changes
- Offers a way to differentiate yourself from the competition.
Space is limited, so don’t wait to register.
Your TIAC board is excited to see you and celebrate the 60th annual conference!
